Take a page of stark black and white
Blend and smudge the edges,
Until there are no lines
And areas of grey define.
Let a single teardrop
Roll down along the page,
Its simple path will choose
Each how or when or where
Each what, or stage
Of faith that she will follow
And then make her own.
Until she chooses from within
She won't be truly home.
Then somewhere near the bottom,
The teardrop gently sinks,
And leaves her mark upon the page
Forever in indelible ink.

Sometimes we remember a certain word ... or a compliment that just stands out somehow, elevated in a place of our memory, where it is protected and cherished forever. Sometimes it is silence that casts a special feeling, an honourable bow. When I read this piece to my poetry group, "Between The Sheets" at Goderich around 2007, I had no idea what the reaction would be. There was silence. (And I was thinking, oh, is it that weird? ... yikes) Then Roger said one word. Just one. "Outstanding". My eyes watered and my heart melted and I turned into a puddle of blubber, but it was one of the best days of my life. My heart will always hold a special place for those kind fellow-writers in the Goderich Library, who took the time to listen, encourage, criticize, laugh, advise, inform, and even be a reference for me ... Roger, Debbie, Christine, Vanessa, Lilo, Lynn and others; thank you from my soul to yours. You are all "outstanding"! :)
